Wild DC To Boston Temperature Swing Coming Up Next 5 Days

We have a bitterly cold weekend coming up from DC to Bangor but does this arctic blast last?

We have an interesting and potentially record breaking temperature rollercoaster coming up between Sunday and Tuesday evening.

Firstly it’s all about the cold and when it’s arctic air involved, don’t you just love the clear blue skies which come with it.

As two lows exit eastern North America and a major arctic high drops into the Mississippi Valley, the core of cold dives into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic during Saturday.

However, a low which develops over Mexico this weekend will lift into the Arklatex region and quickly becomes a major storm system as it lifts up along the spine of Appalachians. Within 72 hours, we could see some places including DC, Philly, NYC and Boston climb 50-60 degrees. Exact track is crucial but as of now, models take the centre of low pressure over or just west of the Big Cities.

This could be a major snow producer over the interior.

Like the ECMWF I showed in the video this morning, the GFS too has ridging and strong southwest for the very areas shivering this weekend, next weekend.

See this morning’s video for the discussion.
