As forecast back at the beginning of the week, the open to Christmas Eve will be rather lively with Storm Eva named by the MO. The worst of the wind and rain will be felt early in the morning but her presence will be felt through this evening as well as well as through Christmas Eve day. Winds will widely touch gale or severe gale-force overnight tonight with gusts of 50-60 mph likely over many inland parts, 70-80 mph on exposed coasts and hills. 120 mph over Cairngorms/Nevis Range where snow is also expected.

A cool, blustery Christmas Eve with snow on hills across the North.

Staying cool in North, somewhat milder in South Christmas Day but rain will spread north through this afternoon!

Then as one system clears it simply makes room for the next and Boxing Day, like the open to Christmas Eve, looks rather stormy with a fresh batch of heavy rain and severe gales.

10m Wind gusts at 18z Boxing Day.

Thanks to more northward progression of the strong southerly air flow over the UK, it’s looking milder for all Boxing Day.

Well as for snowfall, the ECMWF is VERY bullish (too bullish) over Highland Scotland!

GFS? Not so much!

Be sure to check out the video for another look at the longer term pattern. Will have the January Outlook tomorrow!
