Tropical Storm Danny Is Born In Atlantic, Extreme Temperature Rollercoaster For US Next 10 Days

First and foremost, we have Tropical Storm Danny out over the east central Atlantic and showing strong signs of becoming 2015’s first hurricane.

Latest visible satellite imagery shows a little eye within Danny.

Does this have any threat on the US? Chances at this time are low given that Danny has a lot of dry, dusty air on it’s north side. There’s a lot of time for it’s surrounding environment to become unfavourable.

However the upper air pattern over the US does become more favourable for tropical threats as heights surge over the Great Lakes and lower underneath late next week into September first week. If Danny happened to survive it’s journey through the Caribbean, well that would change things.

As for the US, we’ve got a significant trough drilling down the Plains and this brought an unusually cool August day to the Dakotas yesterday.

Check out how cool the next 5 days is expected to be according to the GFS ensemble. Lows in the 40s as far south as Missouri? It’s possible.

Here was the national highs from yesterday. Note 90s reached both Northwest and Northeast corners but it stayed in the 60s, even 50s in South Dakota. Some 30 below normal!

These highs are 50 degrees down on last Saturday when it reached 105 degrees in the very area that only managed 57 yesterday!

Here’s today’s 500mb height anomaly and forecasted highs according to the GFS. Note the huge cool pool dominating the Central region with another day of 90s up West and East coasts.

Tomorrow morning could start with 40s as far south as Missouri thanks to clear, cool and dry air along with little wind.
