Bare with me… my internet remains down at the house but I am able to at least post from wifi access outwith. Hope to have an engineer out in a day or so but until then, there will be no videos I’m afraid but plenty of written material.
As for the weather, well we finally catch a break today and much of tomorrow following some pretty heavy and persistent rain over the last few days across Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England. Unfortunately this pattern remains much the same through the upcoming week and beyond, UNSETTLED!
As has been the case all along this year, the Southern UK shall fair best with the sun and warmth with London and the Southeast managing to climb into the low and mid-20s while we get a day or two here and there of dry, sunny and relative warmth in between showers and some longer spells of rain. The good news is that rain shouldn’t be as heavy and persistent this week and winds much lighter.
As for points south of the UK and particularly countries surrounding the Mediterranean, heat wave conditions persist with areas slightly inland from the sea, approaching or even surpassing the 40C mark in countries such as France, Italy, Greece, Croatia and Turkey to name a few. On the Med holiday island hot spots, packed full of tourists these days, temperatures are in the 30-37C range generally and these conditions are dangerous, particularly for those unaccustomed to high heat. Little relief by night with lows widely 23-27C.

Yesterday’s toasty highs across Europe.

Here’s the GFS projected 2-metre temps each afternoon this upcoming week. Note the contrast from the Northern UK across Scandinavia into NW Russia vs Southern Europe.

I had always pegged this summer as hotter across the South while much cooler and wetter across the North, I think you’ll agree with this looks like a good and accurate forecast issued back on April 1 when the UK was abnormally dry and warm which led many into a false sense of security. I’ve learned from my mistakes back in the spring of 2012 when we had a similar spring!
Here’s the latest ECMWF surface. The Atlantic continues to rule Northwest Europe!

Rainfall wise, the last 30 days has been wetter than normal over the North, drier than normal across the South of the UK but much of continental Europe has been dry.

Upcoming 10 days.

Will have thoughts on August tomorrow!
