Late last week we saw temperatures soar towards 115F in the Northern Sacramento Valley beneath a 594dm ridge. We now have an unusually deep trough overhead and we’re literally seeing the opposite, instead of 10-15 above average it’s now 10-15 below average with rare July rain, hail and yes even snow!

This is not something you see every day on the GFS or ECMWF in July!

There was even a rare waterspout on Lake Tahoe last night!

A steady warming trend this weekend into next week for the Lake Tahoe area.

Dew points over the wet ground increase through next week….
As we look ahead, expect it to slowly warm up in the West but it looks to stay cool further east. However, because of all the moisture in the ground and with sunshine, expect it to turn very humid over the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys as we press into next week. Note the increasing area of 70-75+ dew points.

GFS ensemble 5-day mean 2 metre temps/anomalies suggest the cool, not warm is the bigger story as we go forward.
