As expected, it’s been a rather unsettled start this week with widespread showers and storms around. Especially on mainland Europe where those storms have been severe and deadly. A trough is now bringing relief to eastern areas and in turn, the mean ridge is now shifting west into the Low Countries, France and the UK where it will park overhead. A welcome relaxation of the atmosphere, where recent days has been wild to say the least.

So, it would appear a nice, solid 1028 ridge will establish itself right over the UK as we end the working week and this, according to most models, should hold firm through the weekend and well into next week bringing much drier, brighter weather to Ireland, UK and western mainland.
It will remain on the warm side too.
Here’s the GFS surface charts through the next 5-7 days.

The NCEP ‘blocking’ chart through the next 9 days has a strong consensus on ridging building right over the UK and W Europe late week and through much of next week.

CFSv2 also showing more positive heights over the UK which in recent runs, I didn’t have.
