The reports and pictures coming out of Oklahoma are simply devastating and my thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted.
The severe threat will continue well into the overnight unfortunately and this situation remains highly volatile so if your in the threat zone, please take note of your unfolding weather situation throughout tonight.
The threat will be high once again Tuesday afternoon and evening further east into the Ohio Valley with a lot of heat and very moisture air being forced north out of the Gulf. This is providing a lot of energy ahead of the eastbound energy.
While the West has cooled considerably, the trough and storm system responsible for all the severe weather is pumping heat and humidity up into the Northeast and expect temperatures to rise from Raleigh to Boston in coming days.
Here’s the ECMWF for Wed and you can see the SW flow pumping heat up the Coastal Plain with highs well into the 80s from DC to Boston.

While the heat and humidity is riding up the East Coast and it’s stormy further west, an unusually cold Pacific storm system is dropping into the Pacific Northwest and will lower SNOW levels towards 4,500ft tonight within the Cascades. That means snow to Pass level incl Snoqualmie.
Eventually the front and storminess will reach the East Coast and Big Cities late week so heavy rain and cooling temperatures are on the way.
Here’s the latest QPF for the next 5 days.

Note the bulk of precip hangs back west over the next 72 hours but I suspect a belt of 1-3 inches Thursday-Friday as the East Coast sees the front swing through. We may see a slight severe risk.
Here’s the ECMWF by Sunday and you can see the cooler air mass over the Northeast. A cool Canadian high will bring some cool, dry, refreshing air with below normal days and nights for 2-3 days.

However, heat builds again next week as ridging returns to the East Coast.
The West doesn’t look particularly hot over the next 5 days as systems push in from the Pacific. That would indicate more eastern ridging and therefore above normal temperatures hold from the Plains to East Coast.
Here’s the ECMWF for next Thursday showing heat and the core building over the Plains. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see the first 90 in Philly or New York late next week.
