For a large area stretching from the southern Highlands down to the English border, it’s been a lovely, sunny and fairly warm afternoon with highs reaching 16-18C but from around Pitlochry on north, it’s been mostly cloudy and cooler at 10-14C. Cooler for all compared to the 21-22C seen in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, 22.3C at Strathallan yesterday.

Tonight will be breezy and chilly in that wind across the North and Highlands, clearer skies and lighter winds mean colder overnight temps from the Central Lowlands into the South. Lows widely 4-6C in towns, perhaps 0 to 3C in sheltered rural areas.

Wednesday is looking largely dry with the best of any brighness across central and southern areas, always cloudier in the North with showers over the hills. Temperatures will continue a downward trend at 8-10C in the North, closer to 12-14C in the South.

England

Today is very much a mixture of sunshine and cloud but thankfully it’s mainly dry for most with just an odd shower possible across the Midlands, Pennines and perhaps along the immediate North Sea Coast. While cooler than yesterday, we’re seeing temperatures widely between 14-16C with 18, perhaps 19C in the sunnier areas around Cumbria. Carlisle appears to be the UK warm spot at 17.3C as of 3pm.

Through tonight and clouds thicken which may allow mist, murk and drizzle to develop overnight. Not particularly cold with lows perhaps a little down on last night at 7-9C in towns, 4-7C in rural areas. Cooler where skies are clear.

Wednesday should be much like today and you can shave another 1-3C off today’s highs with a widespread temperature range of 13-16C with a freshening northerly breeze for all, stronger along the North Sea Coast where low cloud, rain and drizzle may keep it distinctly cold at just 6 or 7C.

Wales

It’s been a fairly pleasant Tuesday across the country but temperatures are beginning to fall as NNW winds pick up, dragging down colder air and shoving the warm air out. The rest of today will be a sun-cloud mix, pleasantly warm across the South with perhaps an odd 18C, nearer 12 or 14C at best in the North out of the wind.

Tonight will be a mostly cloudy night, the breeze picks up and there will be a slight shower risk, mainly over the hills and lows dip to nearer 5 or 6C for the coldest spots.

Wednesday will be much like today with a NW breeze, a mix of sun and clouds and a chance of an odd showers carried in by the breeze. Feel cooler tomorrow with highs a couple of degrees off today, feeling cooler in the wind too.

Northern Ireland

It’s a dry and bright afternoon across Northern Ireland with nice mild temperatures, you’ll feel the warmth off that late May sun that’s for sure as highs push 17, perhaps 18C in a few sheltered places.

Through tonight and it’s a mix of cloud and clear spells. Lows dip under clear skies towards 3-4C in rural parts but where cloud lingers, it shouldn’t dip much lower than 6-8C.

Wedenesday is looking somewhat cloudier with a breeze picking up out of the northwest. This will present northern and western areas with a chance of an odd shower, less of a risk further south and east. Cooler than today with highs not much higher than 12 or 15C at best.

Ireland

It’s a lovely afternoon across a large portion of the Republic with temperatures warming nicely towards 17, possibly 18C over the southern interior. Through tonight and clouds redevelop and these should hold night temperatures up but where skies remain clear, it may get fairly chilly. Lows range from 8C in towns to perhaps 3C where clear in the countryside.

Wednesday is very much a day of sun and clouds with some shower activity across the north and west, driven in by a freshening NW breeze. Temperatures will be down a few degrees on today at just 12-15C, perhaps 16C where sun breaks in the East and particularly South.

Any ideas about the coming week along the South Coast? With the Round the Island race on June 1st that’s another weekend where conditions would be of interest. (I’m not taking part myself)
    Thanks
