Following some heavy, thundery downpours this afternoon, particularly over eastern parts, tonight should see some decent, fine and dry weather with sunshine to end your day. The sunshine makes way to a starry night and with light enough winds, it will get fairly cold by mid-May standards once again with a rural frost expected. Lows dip to between 2-4C in towns and cities.

Thursday starts of fine, dry and cool but as the sun heats the ground and lower atmosphere, so the showers and thundery downpours return by afternoon. Highs remain subpar for the time of year at 10-13C.

England

After some snow fell across parts of Dartmoor and Shropshire with cold, laden skies in some parts, holding those temps some 10-12C below normal, we have better weather on the way! Tonight will be clear and if your away from the urban heat island of towns and cities, it will get pretty cold with lows by early dawn down to 2 or 3, perhaps 0C in sheltered spots.

Thursday starts of fine, dry and mostly sunny but as the sun heats the ground, so those showers will kick off once again. Thankfully there should be decent spells of sunshine which will help boost temperatures into the 12-15C range. Still cool for the time of year but an improvement on recent days.

Wales

It’s a sunshine and shower regime today across Wales after a wild past 24 hours which saw over 74mm of rain or over 3 inches fall in some parts of the South yesterday, even snow fell to relatively low levels which turned roads white. Conditions thankfully aren’t like that today and there is a much better, though chilly night ahead with rural frost likely as lows dip to 1-2, possibly 0C in spots, closer to 3-5C in towns and cities.

Through Thursday and it’s looking fine, dry and settled to start but as the sun warms the ground, so the instablity is triggered and the showers pop up. Those may be heavy, thundery with hail.Highs range from 10 to 14C.

Northern Ireland

The wind has been a noteworthy feature of this morning’s weather as a gusty north wind has not only been strong but cold. Through this afternoon and conditions have improved with decent sunshine to be enjoyed. Still cool for mid-May at just 10-12C.

Through tonight and beneath clear skies and fairly light winds, it turns chilly with rural frost likely. Towns and cities hold up at 2-4C. During the second half of the night, a band of rain spreads west to east across Ulster, breaking up some as it enters eastern areas.

Thursday starts off damp and cloudy but sunshine should break out during the afternoon but it will turn somewhat showery. Highs no better than 10-13C.

Ireland

It’s a sunshine and shower regime across Ireland with longer spells of rain along the West Coast. Tonight will see long clear spells develop and that means a cold one with rural frost expected, esp over the Midlands. Lows dip to between 1-3C in rural parts, closer to 3 or 4C in the towns and cities.

An area of rain will spread in from the Atlantic Thursday morning but this breaks up as it spreads across the country. The afternoon will see cloudier skies with outbreaks of rain in the west, sunnier in the east with heavy showers expected. Highs range from 10-14C.
