Scotland
It’s been another blustery day with sunshine and showers, feeling cool with temperatures no better than 10 or 11C in the west, 12 or 13, perhaps an odd 14C in the east.
Through tonight, skies clear out and with lighter winds, temperatures will tumble away to unseasonably low levels for the time of year. Expect widespread lows by dawn Wed of 2-4C with rural areas falling to 0C with frost.
The system responsible for bringing the wild weather will slide into the North Sea tonight with the associated front bringing rain to eastern areas during Wednesday. It will be drier and brighter further west. Highs range from 10-13C again.
England
It continues to be a very soggy, windy day across Southern parts of the country with local flooding, nasty surface spray and to make matters worse, all this is driven by gale-force winds. While the canopy of rain clears the Southwest this afternoon, the entire South and Midland part of England will be beneath the sprawling canopy, holding temperatures at just 5-8C.
Through tonight the heavy rain spreads across the Pennines into eastern England, don’t be surprised to see snow over higher ground and if precip is heavy enough, it may sleet or snow to low elevations.
Wednesday is an improving picture with the arm of heavy rain spreading across the far North where it may well be snowing over the North Pennines, further South it’s much brighter, sunnier and warmer with highs returning to double figures, staying cool in the North at just 6-8C.
Wales
It’s a dreadful day across the bulk of Wales with heavy rain spreading north. This rain is persistent and that means totals will mount up to possibly 2 inches so expect surface flooding. Winds are also strong with gales, especially along the coast. Temperatures are disappointing this afternoon at just 6 to 8C but in the far North where it’s drier and brighter, expect highs of 12C.
Tonight will see the rain spread NNE, eventually clearing from the South. Snow will fall over the Brecon Beacons and in some of the heavier downpours we may see wet snow fall to low levels. Lows tonight dip towards 4-6C.
Wednesday is an improving picture with the heavy rain lifting out. This shall be followed by a day of sunshine and showers.
Highs remain poor at 10 or 11C, though an improvement on today.
Northern Ireland
Sunshine and showers along with a real chill in the air, remains the dominant aspect to the weather. Conditions turn a little quieter this evening and through the first half of the night but in the North, yet more showers will push into the Antrim coast. Further south through Lisburn and down towards Newry, clearer skies mean temperatures may dip towards freezing in some rural areas. Lows range from 4-5C in towns, 0 to 3C in rural areas.
Wednesday will be another day of sunshine and showers, always feeling chilly in the NW breeze. Highs range from 9 to 11C.
Ireland
Like we’ve seen across Ulster, it’s very much a sunshine and shower regime across the Republic with a cold NW wind taking the edge of those already chilly temperatures.
Tonight will see showers continue to for some, they ease and make way for clear spells which should allow for a chilly night. Lows range from 5-7C in towns, possibly 3-4C in rural areas.
Wednesday will be a repeat performance with highs of 9-13C.
