Scotland
Following a cloudy and damp morning in places, the sunshine has broken through for most areas this afternoon but staying cooler than average. Speaking of cool, beneath clear skies and light winds expect a widespread rural ground frost with towns and cities holding above freezing. Lows in some spots may dip towards -5 or -6C in the Highlands.
Thursday will dawn dry, bright and chilly but as the morning wears on, cloud and rain will move into western and northern areas. It should stay drier and brighter from the Central Lowlands on south. Thursday will be a cold, damp day with hill snow, perhaps mixing to lower level up towards Inverness, milder in the sunshine further south. Highs range from 5C in the cloud and rain/sleet mix to 13C in the Borders.

England
A band of cloud associated with a decaying front will enhance cloud cover across the Southeast tonight and here temperatures will be milder than last night where it got down to -3C in Suffolk. Elsewhere tonight, it’s a chilly one beneath clear skies and light winds with frost likely in rural areas so have that scraper handy if heading off to work early. Fog is possible over NW England and perhaps extending into the North Midlands overnight. Lows range from 5-7C in towns, cities or beneath the cloud to perhaps 0C in rural areas with an odd -2 or -3C like last night.
Thursday is looking largely fine and dry with any frost melting at sunrise and fog should burn quickly. The exception will be SE England where the cloud lingers and some light drizzle is possible over Kent. In the sunshine, highs should widely reach 15-17, perhaps 18C.
Wales
After a decent first day of May with plenty of sunshine to be enjoyed, those sunny skies once again make way for a clear and quite cold night under the stars with a widespread rural ground frost. While towns and cities drop not much lower than 3-4C, outwith the urban areas, temperatures may dip to 1-2C, locally 0 to -1C.
Plenty of sunshine is once again on offer across the bulk of the country during Thursday but clouds bubble up through the warming afternoon hours, like today. Highs tomorrow rise nicely to between 12-15, locally 16C.
Northern Ireland
It’s a fine end to the day across much of Ulster and that means a clear and chilly start to the night with lows dipping towards freezing in many places outwith towns, so expect some frost. While Derry, Belfast and Newry hold up at 2-4C, rural parts may dip to 0 or slightly below.
However, there is chance through the second half of tonight as a system advances in from the west, introducing a south wind and cloud. Eventually light rain will spread east through Thursday morning. That damp, drizzly and breezy weather will persist through much of the but thanks to the southerly direction of wind, it stays fairly mild at 12-14C.
Ireland
It’s a damp and breezy end to your Wednesday across western parts while in the east, such places as Dublin will enjoy a fine, dry and bright evening. Those bright skies will make way for a cold night to come throughout the east but further west, a front will push cloud and rain in from the Atlantic and this should spread across the Midlands overnight. That cloud and rain will eventually reach all parts by Thursday morning, so despite the cold first half to the night, it warms up through the second half with southerly winds picking up.
Thursday is looking largely cloudy for much of the country with outbreaks of rain. Winds will be fresh everywhere, strong along the coast. With a southerly origin of wind, expect temperatures to hold up nicely at between 12-14C.
