STV’s Sean Batty released a graphic today which shows multiple locations across Scotland which saw the coldest April on record. Is this a surprise given what we’ve seen? No.
When data gets released by the Met Office with time, my hunch is more locations across the UK will have seen one of, if not thee coldest April too. Amazing, following the UK’s coldest March in 51 years. What an amazing March-April period and if you want to go further, what an amazing February through April period. That said, you only have to look at the Trans-Atlantic mirror and what’s going on in the United States and Canada with the never ending winter. Right now, we’re getting off lightly.

Though the latest run of the ECMWF has backed off some on next week’s warmth here, I stand by my ‘increased confidence’ of a warmer week and the warmest spell thus far for Scotland and such areas as Scandinavia. Like I always say, a 10 day period is a long time when modelling is concerned and there WILL BE CHANGES with back and fourth.
Despite any warmth next week, I continue to beat the cold drum for May overall and the big reason why? The NAO and AO is going negative and this should also promote drier than normal conditions which I am hoping for, simply because, if your looking for warmth down the road, your wanting those soils to be nice and dry.
Unfortunately I cannot upload images at this time due to technical difficulties. Without being able to show you charts, I shall cut this short but be sure to watch the video below though as I show you what I cannot here on the written section.
