There is good and bad news over the coming 5-7 days, the good news is warmth returns to a cold Southeastern part of the country where highs have averaged 10-20 below normal persistently. Snow showers have been off and on across northern parts of Alabama, Georgia (incl Atlanta) with record or near record lows observed all the way to Miami along with reports of colder nights in North Florida compared to parts of New England.

If you live in the Southwest, expect low 90s in Phoenix, upper 80s to around 90 in Las Vegas with perhaps a few 100s in the lower deserts. 70s return to the Southeast after such persistent cold weather but it will come with showers and thunderstorms unfortunately, I’m sure folks here will take it for the warmer weather..

As you can see the jet lifts north as this week draws to a close and in fact even northern areas, including Minnesota will see rain, not snow into the weekend, a sign of spring’s arrival and the end to winter? Not quite!

Strong arctic front will draw another batch of very cold air down from central Canada, this may come with some quick hitting snow, strong winds and sharp temperature drops. Behind the front and once established into Monday, expect highs and lows 20-35 below normal across parts of North Dakota and Minnesota.

Easter Sunday looks wet into California with the presence of a Pacific low pushing through and it will be wet across parts of the South and East too, turning colder across the Northern Plains again.
Just how cold might it get? Wouldn’t be surprised to see lows back well below ZERO. Meteorologist Daryl Ritchison based in Fargo, ND tweeted me to say Fargo’s latest zero-degree low is April 4th, may not make it but needs to be watched. There are parts of ND and NW Minnesota which will bottom out under -10! Minneapolis may creep into single digits with 10s, 20s for highs.
As the cold tries to push towards the SE, warmth, ridging and a storm system will create a battle, we should watch the region from TX to the Carolinas for potential severe weather and flooding rains early to mid next week.
