UK’s Coming Weekend Warmth Will Likely Be Last Real Warm Spell, Autumn Air Arrives Next Week

It’s at this time of year when you really want to make the most of those 25C+ days since you just know their living on borrowed time. This weekend I think is likely to be the last real warm period and with it arriving on the weekend, get out there and enjoy it. The bulk of the UK say from Carlisle southwards is still looking good for 22-27C, maybe 28C with Sunday looking warmest as the trough comes acalling from the northwest and southwest winds pick up, driving warmer air up into the South, Southeast of England.

The North still doesn’t look terribly dissapointing but there’s always that risk of more cloud cover etc etc. Speaking of the north, expect an increasingly wet day today with a real soaking over the Northwest Highlands, that rain spreads southwards into the Lowlands and Southern Uplands through this morning and along with the rain, winds will freshen and become strong with coastal gales, maybe as far south as the North Channel.

It will be a very pleasant day however once you head south of the border with long sunny spells of a warm 20-22C.

Chilly, breezy days to come next week, could see first ‘widespread frost’?

Looking ahead to next week and there is cooler air waiting on the wings. The sun and warm air will still be around through Sunday with a possible push of warmth reaching Scotland if you notice in the upper chart above for Sunday but after that I am pretty confident that there is cool days ahead for all as the trough and that building cool over Iceland comes acalling.

Check out the light blues showing up over Iceland. That’s the coolest air since May and as the trough comes down into early next week, that much chillier air will come with it. We may see our first days where highs may struggle to hit 11-12C in the North and combined with a brisk NW breeze and you’ll feel it. The South may have a hard time hitting 15C.

Nights may turn cold as chilly air will feed down from the north for a few days and then under clear skies, light winds I recon we may see widespread town and city lows down towards 1-2C with 0 or -1C in rural areas. We could well see the first forst for many, especially over northern and central areas, perhaps reaching as far south as Oxfordshire.

Check out these chilly looking upper charts. Next week could herald that big change in the way the air feels. May really force you to get that jacket on again 🙁
