90-100° Heat Sloshes Back & Fourth Across The US, Lots Of Precip Over Rockies, South

GFS forecasted maximum temps for next 5 days across United States (Map courtesy of Dr Ryan E. Maue/Policlimate.com)

[error] NEAR 100 HEAT RETURNS TO MINNEAPOLIS, MADISON, CHICAGO, CINCINNATI & WASHINGTON DC MONDAY & TUESDAY [/error]

A west and east coast trough supports a central US ridge and 100s throughout the Plains today with low to mid-90s extending east across the Midwest. Today’s 100s over the Plains leave days 2-3 and heads for the Midwest, Ohio Valley towards the Mid-Atlantic with a peak on Tuesday.

Minneapolis eyes 100 Monday while it’s Madison, Chicago, Cincinnati and Washington’s turn Tuesday. Upper 90s are possible from Philadelphia up through Trenton to Newark while New York City and Boston tops 95.. Parts of Virginia (west of DC) could top 102-104.

If you notice from the below ECMWF upper level charts, the core of heat is centred over the northern half of the US with lower heights and lots of precip breaking out beneath the upper ridge over the Rockies, as well as stretching from Texas to the Carolinas. This looks to continue over the next 7 days.

Midwest, Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic stays hot while Southwest stays cool through Wednesday

From Arizona up through eastern Washington down to Colorado it remains cool with high base thunderstorms now through Wednbesday with temps running 4-8F below normal. Highs over normally hot Phoenix and Vegas will be restricted to the 90s compared with mid-100s considered normal for the the time of year, big difference to next 5-7 days ago.

100s return to Plains, West from Wednesday on

Late this week while the east sees the heat retreat, so the 100s blossom over the central Plains as well as the western Dakotas, eastern Montana, Wyomind and Desert Southwest.

Looking into the following week (beyond next weekend) the model shows the heat re-expand eastwards through the Midwest to East Coast, so once again it looks likely that upper 90s to near 100 returns to DC, mid and upper 90s from Philly to Boston.
