Brutal Southeast Heat Sets Countless Monthly, Even All-Time Records (City/temp list)

A sizzling Atlanta, GA (Photo courtesy of PhotoBucket)

We have seen an historic weather day across the Southeast up into the Mid-Atlantic region as a mighty 592dc high sits directly over the Tennessee Valley and breaks not only monthly all-time records but all-time records for any month.

It is incredible to see 104-110° temperatures this afternoon from Arkansas to North Carolina and Virginia.

Here are some of the monthly/all-time records which have fallen today.

Bowling Green, KY 110° (monthly)

Columbia, SC 109° (all-time)

Athens, GA 109° (all-time)

Nashville, TN 109° (all-time)

Paducah, KY 108° (ties all-time)

Chattanooga, TN 106° (ties all-time)

Columbus, GA 105° (all-time)

Raleigh-Durham, NC 105° (ties all-time)

Washington DC 104° (monthly)

Atlanta, GA 104° (monthly)

Knoxville, TN 102° (ties monthly)

Salisbury, MD 101° (all-time)

Philadelphia, PA ended up pretty close to the century mark today with a high of 98° and the warmest reading of the year so far.

Same spots which set new heat benchmarks today may be even hotter tomorrow!

Now, what’s very interesting is that the models show another record breaker tomorrow with some across the same region which broke monthly or all-time records today perhaps surpassing these incredible readings tomorrow. Another important aspect about tomorrow will be the fact that during the overnight hours tonight, it’s likely to cool anywhere near as much tonight given the degree of heating this afternoon.

I could see many places which soared to 105°+ struggling to get below 80°, in some downtowns including Atlanta, Columbus, SC, Washington DC, it may have a tough time getting below 85°.
