Exceptional ‘Summer-like’ Warmth Continues

Highest temperatures of week-long spell of record-breaking warmth to take the date’s 91-year record down Tuesday; another record is likely to fall Wednesday

While big weather changes loom later this week, the historic warmth of the past 7 days isn’t over yet. Hard to believe as it may be, Tuesday and Wednesday appear poised to produce the highest temperatures of the current warm spell.

An unheard of seventh consecutive record-level temperature is forecast Tuesday, and Wednesday is likely to bring an eighth.

On the verge of replacement Tuesday is March 20’s 91-year-old record high of 76-degrees set in 1921. The day’s predicted late June-level high of 83-degrees would be an eye-popping 35-degrees above normal.

While much of the eastern two thirds of the nation basked in unseasonable warmth Monday , a chill settled over the West.

Chicago’s 78-degree high Monday blew past the temperatures reported out of perennial warm spots like Phoenix (62-degrees), Las Vegas (55), San Diego (58) and Los Angeles (57).

Snow fell in Tucson, while Kingman, Arizona was transformed into a winter wonderland by a cover of snow early Monday.
