>Technical Issues with Blogger last evening meant I did not have access and therefore stopped me from posting. Here is yesterdays post!
The Eastern US is enjoying a summer-like air mass which is rocketing those temperatures some 10 to as much as 25 or more degrees above normal. Yesterday, the 80s stretched all the way from South Texas to Chicago, Minneapolis and Detroit and forced 70s right up to Canada… This is in contrast to what’s happening to the west of the Rockies where 30s and 40sare in firm control along with rain and snow…

Scotland has been experiencing the opposite to that of our friends across the Atlantic
From the Record April heat of the central and eastern US and Canada, it’s cold, cold cold here in Scotland, sounds like a broken record doesn;t it… Said by one reader as “no biggie” the past 72 hours have displayed the worst of winter weather and what makes it worse is the fact it was very late in a winter that’s been long and tiring for everyone. The “No Biggie” comment is likely one that would be disputed by most, especially those who battled near blizzard conditions the day before April fools day, faced 2 days without power, endured fierce winds which toppled trees, or those 100 plus passangers bound for Inverness who became stranded just outside of Carrbridge, near Aviemore for 11 hours.. well that might have been a stupid comment to make as severe unseasonably late winter weather has wrecked havoc across Scotland and I will be the first one to say I am not a fan of “hyping the weather”.. If I ever come across as though I do, well forgive me for enthusiasm and passion for a subject I love…
A low this morning here of -4C is pretty cold for early April. Snows of nearly 2 ft were reported throughout the central Highlands, particularly around the Aviemore area which seems to have been ground zero for the very worst of winter this year with a combo of extreme cold, massive snow totals and the shear amount of days with snow on the ground as well as nights with sub-freezing temperatures. There was yet another 18″ snowfall at Aviemore, remarkable.
Treacherous driving conditions have plaqued many areas from Dumfries and Galloway to Invernessshire which I personally have faced conditions that have matched the worst I’ve seen this winter over the past 72 hours. Many thousands of customers lost power and here at the house, our power was lost for a time during the overnight when gales raged outside.
Northern Ireland was also severly effected by heavy snows which stranded some 300 on Glenshane Pass in Co Londonderry, the country’s highest pass.
This morning as I delivered milk to the small Dumfries and Galloway village of Sanquhar en-route to Dumfries, I experienced yet more snow falling which actually produced a slight covering.
