Looking out from my office window last night with snow falling

View from my office yesterday

Another view from my office
And another!

With renewed snowcover here at my house and across much of the Central Lowlands, combined with a forecast of highs through the rest of this week barely above freezing and the crucial “below freezing” nights has bagged me a 95% confidence level that most of Scotland away from the coast will see a covering of snow on Christmas Morning. Some areas will probably see more snowshowers through this week but there is no way, the snow I am currently looking out at is going anywhere soon, unless we get heavy rain and warmer air which I don’t see at least until Boxing Day.
80% confidence: England, Away from the coast should see a White Christmas

As for England, I believe much of England away from the coast should see a White Christmas especially areas that have recieved the most, such as Kent and Yorkshire.
Much of Europe is also snow covered Frigid!
It’s not just here that’s snowbound and cold, but practially ALL of Europe is white and cold with a low yesterday morning down to -17C in northwest Spain, the beaches are also white there. Germany has endured lows as cold as -33C whilst 15 people have froze to death in frigid Poland. Lows as cold as the -20s have shivered parts of France with 40% of flights out of Charles De Gaulle and Orly Airports in Paris were cancelled due to a second wave of heavy snow hit. Duesseldorf’s airport, third largest in Germany was shut and the three largest airports in Belgium were also completely shut down and major delays as well as cancellations were reported out of Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport, all this because of major crippling snowstorms. Indeed our weather is coming from Europe so it’s no surprise that if we are nationally covered by snow, much of the continent will also be white and even colder than here. Indeed, though cold, we aren’t anything like the interior of Europe, we have our small “island” and milder waters surrounding us to thank..
A bitter blast, colder than anything we’ve seen yet for New Year and into January 2010 For US and Europe?
Some models are forecasting the hemisphere-wide winter cold and snow to grip tighter into New Year as major Arctic blasts may bring in a severe winter outbreak as we enter 2010 and continue into the first couple of weeks of January….
United States to become very Frigid with further snows as we appraoch Christmas for the East and Plains.. More snows likely for many areas of Europe and UK, setting the stage for bitter cold to shiver us towards the worst period of winter in 20+ years, could this be the worst widespread severe cold outbreak across the Northern Hemisphere since the 1970s?….
Thanks for reading.

    >Isn't it said to be only officially a 'White Christmas' if a single flake of snow falls on the roof of the Met Office's depot in London Village during the 24 hours of December 25th?

The fact that a roche moutonnnee in Lochgelly is still white from a blizzard a week ago counts for nothing.
