> Thanksgiving Day High’s

Early Thanksgiving morning at Algonquin, Ill

Bolsa Chica State Beach, Calif

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIANS SPEND THEIR THANKSGIVING DAY UNDER SUNSHINE AND 80s, MIDWESTERNERS SHIVERED IN A BIG COOLDOWN FROM RECENT MILD WEATHER WITH 30s

Southern Californians spent their Thanksgiving lapping up warm sunshine, that was reminicent of summer as 70s along the beaches and 80s inland brought folks outdoors there whilst it was a chilly affair across the Midwest where flakes flew and highs only managed to get to the mid-30s!

Thanks to a Great Basin or Plateau High and it’s clockwise flow, east to northeast winds funnelled through the mountains seperating the deserts and LA basin, these winds brought warming through compressional downslope off the coast range into the LA basin and towards the beach communities.
Interesting Highs in California
FULLERTON 87 (National hot spot)
DOWNTOWN L.A. 84 (12 degrees ABOVE normal)
Chilly Midwest numbers!
Chicago, Ill 44 degrees (coolest since April!)
Minneapolis 37 degrees (First below normal day of the month!)
the day stayed mostly in the low 30s as the high was hit during the overnight hours
International Falls, MN 27 degrees

SIDE NOTE: It’s been cool in California recently, slightly below normal with “only” 60s to low 70s that is, I would take that!.. whereas the Midwest and much of the country has enjoyed a balmy November like here in Western Europe. We like Pacific Northwesterners have paid the price for a mild month with a barrage of persistent storms lashing both shores and that storminess has spread across the lower 48 bringing a strong marine push of air and completely shutting out any Arctic intrution..
Warmth to end as fast as it begun for California…
Sorry SOCAL folks! A dip in the jet stream and a cut off low that will spin over you guys will bring a MUCH COOLER feel after the near mid 80-degree high yesterday in LA! High today is likely to only hit the low 70s as a cold front pushes out of the north and even some snow flurries or showers are likely in the higher peaks across SOCAL over the next few days. 3,500 ft snow levels are possible as the trough and cold air aloft intensifies and highs may struggle to get mid into the mid-60s for downtown LA on Saturday! Amazing contrast…
Arctic air looms as does December…
Models are hinting at Arctic air’s return after an early warning shot back in October. Yes we haven’t seen cold since then and it’s been a WARM month but as per usual, it must end sometime and I believe a stormy, BUT colder time is starting to knock on the door of America’s lower 48!
Arctic air next week??
Thanks for reading.

Today’s Weather Here

Today’s extremes here at my house
High 44 degrees (1.21pm) Low 38.8 degrees (8.52am)
A day which started crisp and fresh with sunshine, remained that way much of the day with a chilly but light breeze. It felt cooler because of how mild it has been of late. Some pesky, heavy showers did hit and go this afternoon but current readings dropping into the 30s as skies are clearing out with just a few high level cloudiness holding the thermometer at bay for now. Predicted low here at the house should be around 28 degrees by sunrise. Highs may only get to around 42 degrees.
