Torrential rains associated with a cut off low over the central Med Sea has produced devastating flash floods to parts of Greece and with this very feature expected to become a warm core medicane in the same area late this week, more devastating floods is expected. The setup is such that a low to mid level cut off low is strengthening […]
No it’s not something from the chemist but a consolidating storm system which forms over the Mediterranean and takes on some tropical characteristics including a warm core and a clear eye. The last medicane we had was back last Halloween. The models have showed a medicane forming late this week for some time. Small chance […]
With Ben Macdui, Braeriach, Aonach Mor, Carn Mor Dearg, Ben Nevis and another 10 munros including the UK’s top 6 highest ticked off the list last year, 2017 had a lot to live up to. Impressive video of Tom Padham, a research scientist who stepped out into -2F air, 105 mph winds and wind chill of -40C/F on the summit of Mount Washington, NH back on Friday. This was Tom and another colleague back last May. He says he’s been in stronger winds and dealt with 133 mph winds twice. FEATURED IMAGE CREDIT: Farmers Almanac
Simon Cardy today shared the latest run of the MO model for mean sea level pressure January through March and it screams a mild, Atlantic driven winter with stronger than normal Azores high and Icelandic low which would strengthen a predominantly zonal jet stream into the UK and W Europe. 500mb anomaly and 2 metre temp also mirrors the […]
It’s been a fairly grey, damp sort of day across the southern half of Ireland and the UK albeit mild. Tonight sees a more substantial area of rain spreading across the southern UK and this is the remains of once tropical storm Rina. Further north and the northerly flow continued to support sun and showers. It’s […]
