US Contrasts: Winter v Summer… 0s for Montana, Wyoming, 70s for Ohio, New England

What a West-East contrast we have over the Lower 48 just now. We currently have a mid-winter level trough over the West bringing the coldest air not just for this winter but in a few years to parts of California while beneath an unusually strong upper ridge and SW flow, we have record February warmth from the Deep South to New England.

In between the air masses we have stormy weather with a corridor of heavy snow, ice and flooding rains.

You don’t get much of a bigger contrast in temperature anomaly in February with 20-30 below vs 20-30 above normal.
