With the continuation of a fluid Atlantic pattern, our temperature rollercoaster also continues. After a chilly weekend, we started this week still cool in Scotland and Northern Ireland but downright balmy for SW England and Wales where we saw 17C yesterday.

This evening the mild is up over Northern Ireland and southern/central Scotland. Tonight won’t dip out the 12-14C range in parts of England and Wales tonight. However, we return to the cooler with increased chances of seeing snow this weekend as turns turn once again.
Given it’s teatime in late November, these current temps aren’t bad.

However, double digits tend to come with cloud, wind and rain and that’s what we’ve got!

Note in the below GFS 850mb temp anomaly how the lows are creating a wavy, ripple effect on the two conflicting air masses with warmth lifting north AHEAD of the front and cold sweeps in behind then it’s takes charge late week.

We’re current in a moist, warm Azores air mass but by Saturday it’ll be pure Greenland chill where it’s hit -55C there just yesterday.
Colder NW winds will bring snow and possibly heavy snow to the Scottish hills as we head into Thursday and Friday but for the past few days, the models have been showing a potential for accumulating snow across parts of central England and Wales during Saturday.

If the setup plays out as the models see now then passing lows late this week would drag down increasingly cold maritime-polar air over the UK but a developing system which slides into the air in place across the central UK could trigger an early season snow event for England and Wales.
