Up until now it’s been largely mild with many including myself still yet to see the first frost. That will change through the weekend and on into next week as we get our first taste late autumn/early winter.
I must state that the TWO shots of cold is not atypical, it’ll probably feel that way because it’s been so mild but remember that next Wednesday is the 1st of November.
We still remain currently within a mild, moist WSW air flow with origins extending back to the subtropics. South of the boundary the air is warm and moist, to the north somewhat clearer and fresher. This front has but stuck nudging north-south over the UK throughout this week but it finally gets a kick south late week as high pressure builds in.

As we head towards the end of this week high pressure builds in then retreats W and N, shutting off the westerlies and in comes our first taste of cold.

With cold but stable air (high pressure) in place, expect clear frosty nights to become widespread early next week.
The weekend sees the change as winds turn northerly, daytime temperatures remain below 10C and factoring in a gusty north wind, you’ll be forced to grab the heavy coat. However, lowest temperatures arrive early next week as the high rebuilds into the cold air.
Mon AM forecasted lows.

Realistically any snow will be confined to the Highlands and Southern Uplands.
