Well I guess you could say the heat is on but probably just south of the border I’m afraid. Today will be a typically ‘warm June day’ in the Southeast and over northern France where highs widely rise into the low and middle 20s, locally 27C on the English side of the channel, widely 27-29 in France, locally 31C west of Paris. Much of Northern Ireland and Scotland has been plagued by cool, often breezy and showery weather this week and that continues through the rest of the week, perhaps easing into the weekend but still, fronts are never far away. For much of England, particularly southern and eastern counties, it’s been more sunny than not and in the sun well it’s feeling like summer.
Today’s visible satellite shows the all too familiar WNW cloud but sunny South and East.

Temperatures responding nicely in the sun. Pleasant on the often sunnier, sheltered Moray Coast.

While we’ve got a persistent ridge over the near continent with a spinning off Ireland we’re right beneath the battle zone. For Scotland, low pressure is winning with fronts enhancing the unsettled theme but for much of England and to a lesser extent Wales, it’s the continental high that’s winning.
Thursday sees a system cross the northern UK trimming heights, turning winds more westerly and for all it’s slightly fresher than today.

However, once that feature departs, a stronger ridge builds in from the SW and heat rebuilds for the weekend.

Looks like we may have our first shot at 30C by Sunday with mid 20s widespread across England, cooler elsewhere.

Next week continues to look more promising for all INCLUDING Scotland as height pressure builds overhead. There’s a chance at seeing 32-34C between Birmingham and London next week as LP nearing SW England and high pressure over the North Sea, a hot SE flow may develop. Looks like Scotland and Northern Ireland could rise into the low and mid 20s.
