With the combination of air temperature and wind chill, yesterday was by far England’s coldest day of winter so far with many sites stretching from Northumberland to Kent failing to get above freezing. Atlantic air however clung to Northwest Scotland where Aultbea touching a spring-like 13.4C.

As forecast, Atlantic air is now spreading into western areas with a noticeable difference in feel of the air.

The skies are also going from crystal clear to milky, then downright gloomy.
This weekend turns milder and more unsettled with SW breeze, cloud and light and patchy rain spreading in. Transient snow to high levels.
The Atlantic is coming back to life and it’s got it’s sight on Ireland and the UK through next week.

A strong, zonal Atlantic jet means more turbulent weather from Atlantic into the UK and Western Europe. Wind and rain will become the main aspect to next week and the GFS suggests a series of deep depressions eyeing the UK late next week into the weekend.

With the return of stormier Atlantic weather comes temperature ups and downs. The fact these lows are expected to sweep in off the Atlantic from the SW, it’s likely to be more up than down temperature wise but the question is does it last?
