Low pressure spinning over Denmark has brought the first heavy snowfall from Riga, Latvia and Oslo, Norway and surrounding areas in the past 36 hours. The low is also acting is a wheel, transporting increasingly bitter Russian air through the Baltics, Scandinavia and down over the UK as high pressure stretches from the Azores to Iceland.

Infrared imagery depicts nicely the arctic air blowing down over the UK on the backside of the low over Denmark. You’ll notice the sting in that breeze throughout today!

Cold temps aren’t going anywhere over the next couple of days and in fact a strengthening NNE wind will make it feel even colder tonight through tomorrow.

As low pressure is replaced by high pressure into early next week, lighter winds and a cold, clear sky with possible snow cover could send temperatures to -8C over the Scottish Highlands while Norway’s southern Fjords could hit -30C. Much of inland Western Europe including Germany, Low Countries and France could see the coldest November nights since 2010.
