It’s been a dry, long and hot summer for a large portion of the Lower 48, so much so that it’s been a top 5 hottest nationally and for some 45 US cities it’s been the warmest on record, especially to the east of the Mississippi River. The below graphics say it all!
The relentless heat in the East can be directly attributed to the strengthening eastern drought through the spring, aided initially by the record tying El Nino which peaked late last winter.
