It’s a busy tropical Atlantic and it looks set to stay that way for some time.
The current infrared image below shows Fiona, 99L and Gaston but we also have a blow up of thunderstorms around the outer periphery of a high over the Southeast US. This is the feature that’s keeping 99L on a WNW track.


Gaston is interesting but because it has no threat to land I am going to skip on to 99L. This still open wave continues have a hard time forming a closed low level circulation due to 20-30kt shear out of the north.

The visible satellite view over 99L says it all with low centred north of Hispaniola while the convection is well south.

However that shear should drop through the weekend and with increasingly warm ocean heat content, I expect this system to organise as it heads for the Bahamas.

99L has Florida’s attention and not just for wind.

As for the Lower 48 and last 30 days, it’s been warmest on record from parts of eastern Massachusetts down to South Carolina.
