Written by on December 12, 2013 in United Kingdom & Ireland with 0 Comments

Scotland

The unseasonably mild SSW flow continues to dominate Scotland’s air space with temperatures running 4-8, locally 10C above average for mild December. Today’s another cloudy, damp and breezy day, highs 11-13C widely but in the Northwest and North, locally 15C like yesterday.

Tonight and further pulses of rain sweep across the country, driven by fresh to strong SW winds and remaining mild with overnight minimums higher than what would be considered normal by day. 7-12C.

Expect another cloudy, wet and blustery day Friday and with the SSW air flow continuing, expect a similar temperature profile both day and night.

Expect a spell of stormy weather Saturday as a deep low gets close. Expect disruptive gusts of 70+ mph in places.

England

It’s a grey, damp day across most of England with southwest winds drawing a lot of moist air northeastwards. That flow of course is a mild one and for most, highs climb into the 11-13C category but in the Southeast where it’s started foggy but should turn bright or sunny this afternoon along with less breeze, it’s a touch cooler at 9 or 10C rather than the 12 to 14C expected further west and north.

Two fronts sweep across the country today and tomorrow bringing patchy moderate and at times, heavy rain to all. Overnight tonight, temps hold up at 8-12C.

Much the same Friday as well as Saturday with more rain-bearing fronts sweeping in from the Atlantic.

Wales

It’s a wet, windy but very mild day next 48 hours to come across Wales all thanks to SW winds and a series of fronts which will swing through. Expect spells of moderate to heavy rain and a fresh breeze (strong nearer the coast) and temperatures ranging between 10-13C. Tonight the pulses will continue to sweep in from the SW and overnight minimums hold up at 9-12C, warmer than what you’d expect by day.

More wind, rain and mild air Friday and through the second half of Saturday, expect a more concentrated rain band to push through with stronger winds widely.

Northern Ireland

It’s a damp, breezy, mild day right across across Ulster and those mild temperatures continue today through tonight and tomorrow. Expect highs in the range of 10-13, locally 14C and overnight, they don’t drop much, only to between 8-12C.

Much the same sort of day to come Friday with spells of rain, lots of low cloud and a fresh breeze. By Saturday it turns much wetter and very windy. Those winds are likely to turn gale, even severe gale-force so disruption is expected.

Ireland

The exceptionally mild, cloudy and often wet theme continues to dominate the Ireland weather pattern. More low hanging cloud, frequent spells of rain and a moderate to strong breeze continues with temperatures in the 11-14C range. Little change overnight tonight and through Friday, lows tonight won’t get much below 10C anywhere.

It turns wetter and windier Saturday, stormy in the far North and Northwest.
