Scotland
The chilly theme with sunshine and heavy, blustery showers will continue through the next few hours before conditions improve once the sun sets and the atmosphere looses instability. Skies clear tonight from the central Highlands down through the Central Lowlands and the South.
With light enough winds beneath those clear skies, temps should drop away towards 2-3C in towns and cities, nearer 0C in rural parts. Up across the North and snow is possible even down to lower elevations with Orkney and Shetland potentially seeing a light dusting.
Tuesday will be another cool day with a sunny start but the good news is, those hefty, thundery showers won’t be as much of a feature in tomorrow’s weather thanks to high pressure building in briefly ahead of the next front which arrives tomorrow night into Wednesday.
Where the showers do continue through tonight and into Tuesday, sleet and snow is possible, esp over the N. Highlands and Northern Isles. Winds should be a lot lighter tomorrow and so the sunshine should feel pleasant. High’s tomorrow should range from a cold 8C in Shetland to 11C in the Borders.[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level1)]
England
It’s a largely fine, dry and pleasant end to your Monday across the bulk of the country with scattered heavy, thundery showers expected to die away in a few hours across the Midlands. Beneath clear skies and light winds, tonight should feel quite cold with a chance of a rural frost from the North Midlands up towards Lancashire, Cumbria and Northumberland. Towns and cities will widely dip to between 3-6C but in rural areas 2 to -1C.
Tuesday is a much improved day with more in the way of sunshine, fewer showers and a little warmer temps. High’s should push 15C in the sunniest, sheltered spots across south-central areas, perhaps just 7 or 8C nearer the coast and where any breeze lingers or the odd shower pops up.
Wales
It’s been a cool, blustery and showery day across Wales but conditions should settle down after dark with winds lightening and beneath clear skies, temps drop off quite sharply. Expect a fairly widespread rural ground frost tonight with lows dipping down to around freezing in spots, nearer 2-4C in towns and cities.
Tomorrow is a much better day with fewer showers, lighter winds and while temps are similar to today at 10-13C, it should feel that bit warmer in the sun with those lighter winds.
Northern Ireland
The showers have been rattling in fast and at times furious from NW to SE across Ulster today but as the evening progresses into the night, the atmosphere settles down and with lighter winds and clear skies, overnight temps will drop towards freezing, perhaps a little below in sheltered spots. Towns and cities should hold just above 0C.
Tuesday is looking to be a quieter day with decent spells of sunshine and with lighter winds thanks to a ridge building in from the west, you should feel the warmth of that late April sun. Expect highs to range between 10-13C tomorrow afternoon.
Ireland
Like across NI and the UK today, showers have been frequent and heavy across the Republic with hail and thunder thrown in for good April measure. Once the sun drops below the horizon, the atmosphere should loose it’s instability and skies should clear. With high pressure building in from the Atlantic, winds should die away too after a cold NW flow today. The combo of light winds and clear skies should make for a cold night, particularly across the Midlands. Expect lows down towards 0C in rural parts, nearer 2-4C in Cork, Galway and Dublin.
Tuesday should be somewhat drier and a little more settled with fewer showers and more in the way of sunshine, although convective cumulus will once again build through the late morning, early afternoon as the sun heats the ground, showers should be less frequent, widespread and heavy. Highs tomorrow will rise towards 10-14C.
