The cold conditions aren’t going anywhere and unfortunately our weather is set to get a whole lot more wintry through tonight and right the way through Saturday. A lot of moisture associated with an Atlantic low will swing into our cold air mass tonight and force heavy snow to break out, initially across the Southwest but as we progress through Friday, moderate to heavy snow will advance north and east bringing as much as 2-4, locally 6 inches across low levels of the South, 1-2, locally 3-5 inches for the Central Lowlands but with any elevation rise and you may receive upwards of 6-12 inches, say across higher parts of Dumfries and Galloway, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and also up across the southern and central Highlands. Factor in a strengthening southeast wind and blizzard conditions are likely over higher exposed areas with significant blowing and drifting likely.
These poor weather conditions are likely to remain throughout Friday and may well extend all the way into Saturday.
Lows tonight dip to around freezing or a little below, highs tomorrow a very cold 0 to 2C, feeling more like -4 to -10C in the wind. Poor driving for most routes, especially higher exposed areas.

England
A very active frontal system loaded with moisture will swing into Southwestern England tonight bringing heavy, windblown rain to Cornwall, Devon, Dorset with as much as 1-2 inches possible, perhaps a half inch across south-central parts of the country but as this moisture reaches colder air up towards the south Midlands, the precip quickly changes over to heavy snow. Live anywhere from the Midlands on north and prepare for a night of deteoriating weather conditions as heavy snow and strengthening winds push in from the southwest. Even low lying areas of the south and west Midlands may wind up with as much as 3 or 4, locally 6 inches of snow by the end of tomorrow but up over the Pennines as well as the Cumbrian Fells to the NW and North York Moors to the east and as much as 8, locally 12 inches is likely, factor in gale-force southeasterly winds and blizzard conditions with significant blowing and drifting can be expected. High elevation Trans-Pennine routes may be badly affected so please check out before venturing out.
These nasty weather conditions will continue throughout Friday and will bring significant snow to areas further east later Friday into Saturday including eastern counties stretching down into East Anglia, possibly the Southeast.
Wales
As wet weather now pushes into the south of the country, conditions are set to get far worse as tonight wears on with greater concentrations of moisture advancing north with a strengthening southeast wind. Gusts have already be reported as high as 48 mph at Milford Haven. As this moisture lifts north into colder air, expect heavy snow to break out to all levels across and the north and particularly the northeast with strong to gale-force winds producing blizzards especially over higher ground. Expect as much as 3-5 inches of snow at low levels but over a foot across higher ground.
These nasty conditions will last right the way through to Saturday morning. Prepare for travel disruption with 1-2 inches of rain for southern and central parts, heavy snow for the north.
Temperatures range from 2 to -2C tonight and tomorrow 7C in the South, just 1-2C in the North, factor in the strong wind and feeling near freezing in the South, -6 to -10C in the North.
Northern Ireland
A wild night of heavy rain, snow and strong to gale-force southeast winds. Significant accumulations even to low levels can be expected tonight right the way through Saturday with eastern and northern counties set to bare the brunt of the snow. Upwards of 6 inches may fall even to low levels while a 10+ inches may fall over the hills, factor in southeast gales and blizzards with significant blowing and drifting is likely. Far southern and southwestern counties can expect more rain or a mix.
Lows tonight dip to near freezing, highs tomorrow 3-5C in the rain across the south and west, 1-2C where it’s snowing.
Expect tricky conditions on roads to linger right into Saturday.
Ireland
A band of heavy rain along with strong to gale-force southeast winds will envelop the country from south to north through the rest of tonight, expect upwards of 2 inches to fall in places with coastal gales. These nasty conditions will continue through tomorrow morning before the rain band advances further north. Areas in the South including Cork can expect the worst of the rain through tonight with an improving picture during Friday morning.
Lows no colder than 2-3C tonight with snow over hills, highs through Friday 4-8C.
