The dry and settled theme will continue for one more day (tomorrow) before a breakdown in the pattern as high pressure finally slides east into Europe, opening the door to Atlantic weather fronts mid week on.

As for the remainder of today, cloud is breaking for many southern and northeastern areas and here, it’s feeling pleasant in the early March sunshine. Highs 7-9C. Under largely clear skies tonight, lows dip to around freezing providing a light frost.

Tomorrow is looking brighest of the week with decent spells of sunshine across much of the country. Highs once again range from 7-9, perhaps 11 or 12C in sheltered areas.

Heavier cloud with some rain advances in from the west during Wednesday.

England

The high pressure system which has become somewhat of a dominant feature over the past 2 weeks is set to bring us one last bright and sunny day across much of England. Recent days has seen it’s core shift slightly to our WNW but by tomorrow it crosses back over England and this means a clear, cold and for rural parts, a frosty night. Watch out of dense fog patches forming quickly after sundown this evening, especially for areas east of the Pennines. The clear, cold night sets the scene for what will be a beautiful Tuesday, positively spring-like with temperatures widely rising to between 10-13C, the warmest values of the year so far. I expect somewhere in the sheltered South to peak at 15C!

Unfortunately it’s all change come Wednesday as our friend shifts east into the near continent. This will allow the inevitable return of Atlantic fronts and rain, along with some stiff breezes. The rain will be largely light or medium as well as scattered. Temperatures still won’t be too bad at between 8-10C.

Wales

After a cloudy past few days, the sunshine has returned today to much of Wales, making for a splendid March day with temperatures 7-10C. Those clear skies and lightening winds mean a rural frost with towns and cities holding slightly above freezing, 0 to -3C in outlying areas. Watch for fog formation quickly after dark.

Another glorious spring-like day to come Tuesday with slightly warmer temperatures of 9-12C, locally 13 or 14C possible.

Change comes Wednesday as the high makes way to low pressure from the Atlantic once again., Wet and windy conditions will be experienced throughout the country.

Northern Ireland

The dry and settled theme continues but sunshine has been in short supply and this has kept daytime temperatures down. Through tonight and clouds should break and dissipate and that means some of you will be needing the scraper into morning. Watch for dense fog patches also.

Tuesday is looking much the same as today with some bright or sunny spells breaking through here and there. Highs again range from a chilly 6 or 7C where cloud is thickest to perhaps 8 to 10C where sunshine breaks through.

The high which has brought our sustained dry and settled weather over the past few weeks will finally shift east and this opens the door to Atlantic weather systems pushing through during Wednesday. Expect the rain to be mainly light and scattered with an increasing breeze.

Ireland

Cloudcover remains dominant today despite a lack of precipitation. Beneath the cloud, temperatures struggle to 6C where any brightness which manages to break through and temperatures respond nicely. Through tonight, skies clear widely and this will allow a frost and fog to develop with lows down to 1-2C in towns and cities, 0 to -3C in rural spots.

A somewhat brighter day to come Tuesday but this will be replaced by breezier, wetter conditions come Tuesday night into Wednesday as an Atlantic front pushes in from the southwest.
