Conditions have been worsening throughout the afternoon and as we head into the overnight period and the storm spinning offshore continues to drop it’s pressure (now around 982mb), so winds and snow rates are increasing dramatically throughout the Northeast. As of this writing, the blizzard will really start to sink it’s teeth into the New York City to Portland area. There has been a lot of thundersnow reports stretching from Long Island to Maine and with heavier bands now driven in on 60-80 mph winds, roads are now becoming impassable.
Incredible Snowfall Rates & Wind Gusts
Snow totals are now cresting the 20″ level over parts of Connecticut with incredible snowfall rates up to 6″ PER HOUR. Boston’s Logan Airport recently recorded a wind gust to 76 mph, 77 mph in Scituate, MA and these kinds of gusts will continue along the coast.
While it’s all about the big snowfall, snow rates and incredible winds, there is sea water pushing onshore and into homes in Weymouth, MA

It has rained much of the day in New York City but now as colder winds blow out of the northwest, the temperature is now entering the 20s and snows are turning heavier. Due to that rain, snow total will be lower over the NYC area but where it’s snowed all day and continues to intensity through the overnight, snow totals will WIDELY be up over 20″ with parts of Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Maine will likely surpass 25-30″. Somewhere may tally 40″.
