As an area of precipitation advances into western Scotland tonight into Thursday morning, snow is expected from Dumfries and Galloway up through Ayrshire, extending into Greater Glasgow and up through the West Highlands.

This snow is likely to whiten many parts away from the immediate coast including Glasgow with perhaps an inch or two of accumulation in places. Higher amounts may affect higher parts of D & G, Ayrshire and up the West Coast.

Following this overnight, early morning snow, Thursday will be another cold day with highs once again struggling to reach freezing for most. Tomorrow night will be another chilly one with an early dip, especially if there is snow on the ground but as we progress through Thursday night into Friday, expect cloud and eventually rain to sweep in from the west. While this may start as snow, it should quickly transition to sleet and rain for western areas including Glasgow. Winds will likely top gale-force for most with severe gales for exposed areas.

As for Highland and Grampian, expect heavy snow with significant accumulations. This should help ski resorts such as Glenshee (south of Braemar) open this weekend.

Will have an update tomorrow.
