North Sea Divided Frigid Air Over Low Countries With Very Cold Air Over Southern England

While South Newington, Oxfordshire set the new benchmark for UK cold this season at 10F (-12.4C), the frigid air hovering over Poland and Germany swept further west than expected, helped by fresh snowfall yesterday over Belgium and Netherlands.
Amazingly, with the help of Friday’s fresh snowcover, laying down the highly reflective blanket and encouraging the truely bitter air across the Low Countries, this meant an unusually frigid morning. Temperatures plunged to at least 0F (-18C) in Amsterdam, -2F (-19C) at Groningen and Eindhoven, -4F (-20C) at Arnhem, but the prize goes to Lelystad which saw a low of -9F (-22.9C). Lowest reading in the Netherlands in 27 years.
