INTERESTING FACT: It’s quite remarkable to think that when New York’s LaGuardia Airport hit a new all-time record high minimum of 87 degrees in July 2006, that is WARMER than any high this summer in New York City! Something to behold for sure.
Extremes of cool in July 2009
NEW YORK CITY STATS FOR JULY 09 SO FAR
-Every night with exception of 16th Jul has nighttime lows been in the 60s.
-Only 7 out of 16 days have managed to get into the 80s.

According to a statement on icecap.us, some trees in New England have formed colors normally not witnessed until September!
If you think New York and Boston has been chilly try International Falls, Minnesota on the US/Canada border… Seems like the calender has missed out July as a summer month and changed it to a fall month according to the chilly numbers..
-July so far has failed to hit 80 degrees!
-Warmest high is a meager 77 degrees!
-Coolest high was a downright fall-like 53 degrees two days ago. This was he same afternoon Death Valley warmed to a more BALMY 125 degrees..
-Warmest night? Yes a heat wave-like, tropical and steamy 53 degrees, woohoo!
-Coldest night? A wintery 35 degrees, grab the parka!
Even down in the Twin Cities where you’d expect warmer, sticker air and helped along by the urban concrete, things haven’t been much better, although slightly less tundra-like.
-Warmest so far? 85 degrees. Yep 1 degree above normal.. Something to celebrate eh after a cold winter and night when it struck -22 degrees back in January..
-Coolest high? An October-like 64 degrees, made worse by chilly winds and a low drizzly cloud deck which actually produced “windchill” in the upper 50s!
Warmest night?
-Coolest night? 3 nights all make for the coolest at 56 degrees. Enough to grab the coat.
Later I shall post some record highs and record lows that occur over the next 48 hours.
Early last week we saw lows drop into the low 40s in central PA, 30s across Michigan and even a location that plummeted to an icy 27 degrees, yep, in July!!!
Bring out the equiptment for summertime cold weather testing in Atlanta, Michigan!!!
To add to the chills of July 09, Prince Edward Island in the Canadian Maritimes experienced their first July frost in recorded history. Over the past few days reports of snowfall have come out of the Northwest Territories of Canada! I’m not that surprised to be honest considering what’s been happening in areas way farther south.
With lows likely plummeting under dry, clear Canadian high pressure tonight, no moisture to hold the temps, we are likely seeing temps well into the 110s across the Desert Southwest, watch for lows struggle to get below 100 before 1am tomorrow in Phoenix and Vegas and may fail to get under 90 degrees before the air begins to heat by sunrise tomorrow morning.
More to come..
Thanks for reading.
