Beinn Alligin, Torridon

Written by on July 14, 2018 in Scottish Mountains with 0 Comments

After 3 previous visits, I have well and truly falling in love with Torridon in Wester Ross. It’s a special place for escaping and fully taking in nature’s beauty at it’s best.

My first ever visit to the region was back on 18 June, 2016 when my good friend, Petr and I took on the magnificent Liathach. We didn’t reunite until 22 April, 2017 and headed back to Torridon to take on Maol Chean Dearg followed by Sgurr Choinnich and Sgurr a Chaorachain the following month of 21 May, 2017.

Just over a year later and I headed back to Torridon myself for my 4th climb and attempt at a 6th and 7th munro in the region. The beauty and magnificence of Beinn Alligin towering above Loch Torridon awaited me.

Day/date: Sunday 3 June, 2018

Munros: Tom na Gruagaich, Sgurr Mhor

Start point: Car park 2km west of Torridon village

Drive length: 4 hours 15 mins

Walk length: 6.25 miles

Weather: Low fog deck but clear with patchy high cloud above

The fog made for a rather gloomy morning but nice a cool for walking.

I reach my first munro of the day, 3,024 ft Tom na Gruagaich. Was only classified as a munro in 1997.

Unfortunately the cloud and fog rolled in just as I commenced my traverse of the famous ‘Horn’s of Alligin’. My view looking back at lofty Sgurr Mhor was obscured too.

Yep I took the bypass route around the horn’s.

Looking back at where I had just came from with Tom na Gruagaich left and Sgurr Mhor right.

Tom na Gruagaich looking quite stunning in the sunshine here.

The cloud doesn’t doesn’t want me to see the summit.
