With heights building north over the Pacific into Alaska and arctic/siberian swells south, all it takes is a Pacific storm to cross the northern US and tap this cold, presenting the first snowstorm of the season and that’s exactly what we’ve got tomorrow into Saturday.

The next low crosses the Rockies while strong ridging pushes into Alaska and forces colder air south. The combination of this southbound cold and Pacific system crossing to the south, the moisture and cold will come together to produce the first significant snowstorm from Nebraska to Lower Michigan as well as down into the Ohio Valley.
