Well it’s beginning to look like a Scandinavian block will try to rule November across Europe keeping things drier and warmer across the North while cooler and wetter from Russia through the Balkans and down across the Med to Iberia.

Snow cover is naturally expanding over Eurasia but it looks like coverage across Russia is behind this time last year.

At this stage, this doesn’t mean all that much.

Both ECM and GFS operational and ensemble are showing a strong positive suggesting a setup which would certainly bring winter to a large swath of central and possibly western Europe.

GFS ensemble 5-day mean 500mb heights look like this.

CFSv2 weeklies likewise holds a strong ridge over the Baltic Sea.

Yes, this would suggest a drier November than forecast.
