WESTERN EUROPE: Stormy End To August Should Give Way To Nicer, Quieter September

Written by on August 23, 2015 in Rest of Europe, Summer 2015, United Kingdom & Ireland with 0 Comments

It was an interesting overnight with downpours, gusty wind, hail, thunder and lightning, all associated with a warm front which was propagating westward over Scotland as low pressure formed out over the North Channel. Warm, humid, continental air wrapping around the low’s E/N flank, coupled with strong August sun and a very gust ESE wind is making for a beautiful warm day over Northern England and Scotland.

This low has the warm front now over NI where it’s a cool wet day while the associated cold front is bringing a stormy day up through England and Wales. This front lifts north through today, eventually reaching central Scotland tonight bringing more heavy downpours and thunderstorms.

It’s a warm, windy Sunday across northern England and Scotland with temperatures in the 18-22C range in the East, 22-26C in the West with the help of downslope influence, a fresher feel to the south of the CF over Southwest England and South Wales.

That low eventually clears out into the north Atlantic but the next potent low packing strong wind, heavy rain and embedded t-storms pushes into southern Britain overnight tonight.

We’re firmly back under the trough this week!

Quick heads up to subscribers, I issue my September/Autumn 2015 outlook tomorrow (Monday) which is made available to the public but I wanted to show you what I’m looking at. CFSv2 continues to show above normal heights, below normal precipitation during September over W Europe and I’m in full agreement of this. I believe September should be similar to April. Warm, drier than normal!
