After one of the strongest July cold outbreaks shivered the Plains and Midwest, the heat is on through the next 5 days.

The next 5 days will be a dramatic turnaround from the previous with the hottest weather of the summer following the coldest July days in recorded history for some. Highs this week will widely reach the 100s over the Plains. 80s and 90s will replace the recent 60s and 70s throughout the Midwest and South. Oklahoma City and Dallas will heat into the more typical and expected 100s compared to unprecedented 70s of late.

Unfortunately, the upcoming warmth won’t erase and destroy the previous 6 MONTHS of dominant cool. By that I mean the past will once again catch up as models are confident at driving yet another MAJOR trough into the N Plains and Great Lakes by months end.

Here’s the latest GFS 500mb height anomalies and note the complete turnaround and similarity to now by 240 hours.

The cold just seen is beautifully connected with the recurve of Super Typhoon Neoguri in the West Pacific some 10 days ago. As for the upcoming heat, well it’s timing is nicely matched up with Super Typhoon Rammasun which slammed into South China and as for Matmo which is newly formed and heading for Taiwan, well models have it recurving and funnily enough it matches very nicely with next cold shot into the US in about 8-10 days from now!
