As forecasted and posted in detail last night, we have a rather contrasting weather map across the country today. While you’d expect heat to be dominant at this stage in the year, you would be mistaken if you thought that was the case currently.
Check out the below 500mb chart through 24 hours. Note that deep, unusually deep trough sitting over the N Rockies. That feature is, as forecast, bringing snowfall to areas above just 6,000ft. Impressive considering we’re beyond the half way point of June.

Temps this afternoon topped out at 97 in Washington, 93 in Philadelphia, 94 in Atlantic City. New York fell short but could well reach their first 90 tomorrow.
As you would expect, it’s rather stormy once again in the nation’s heartland.

The CFSv2 shows the heat spread east only to be followed by the current chill that’s bringing snow to the Rockies.
