Scotland
It’s turned out to be a lovely start to the week after a chilly and at times unsettled weekend with blustery showers and gusty winds which brought speed restrictions to some bridges. Highs yesterday topped 25.3C in Aberdeen which fell just shy of a September record. Today saw brighter skies further west as well as in the East and temperatures this afternoon have topped out at similar values to yesterday.
It’s a pleasant end to the day and tonight it remains quiet and mild. Lows of 10-14C with a mix of cloud and clear spells.
Wednesday will see rain advance into the Northwest Highlands pushing south through the day but this rain should stay north and west of Glasgow. Brightest and warmest conditions will be found in the Borders where it may top 25, maybe 26C.
It turns fresher and more unsettled for pretty much all by Thursday as the front dives southeast.
England
It’s a fine, dry and glorious end to a September day pretty much throughout England with temperatures holding in the low 20s by early evening. Perhaps a nice evening to spend outdoors.
Through tonight and it stays quiet with plenty of clear skies and with those clear skies comes the risk of mist and fog development, quickly after sunset so be careful if your out on the roads through the night. It stays fairly warm with lows dipping no lower than 13-16C.
Wednesday dawns misty and foggy for many rural areas of the country with high pressure firmly in control, the strong early September sun should quickly burn this off. Through the morning and into the afternoon, expect sunny skies for most with perhaps just a few puffy fair weather cumulus developing. Highs range from 24C in the North to as high as 28C in London.
Even warmer in the Southeast Thursday with a chance of hitting 30C once again. Cooler and cloudier in the West and North.
Wales
It’s a very nice end to your Tuesday across much of Wales with a mix of warm sun and a few clouds and a minimal chance of a shower, confined only to higher ground. After a warm afternoon with highs reaching 22-23C, tonight will quickly see any clouds clear out but with clearing skies means mist and fog quickly forms, particularly in sheltered areas and river valleys. Lows tonight dip to between 10-15C.
After mist and fog burns off, Wednesday is looking fine, dry and sunny pretty much everywhere except for the immediate coasts. Temperatures tomorrow afternoon are expected to climb widely into the 20-23C range with 25C locally.
Thursday turns cooler, cloudier and with some wind and rain as a front swings in from the Irish Sea. This sets the stage for a MUCH cooler and more unsettled Friday into the weekend.
Northern Ireland
It’s a mostly sunny and warm end to your Tuesday pretty much right across Ulster with temperatures nudging 21C in a few eastern spots which is nothing to stiff at following the country’s third warmest summer on record (beaten only by 1995 and 2006).
Through tonight and it turns clear and a touch cooler with lows dipping into the 8-12C range.
Wednesday looks like another warm and sunny day over the East but in the West, cloud and eventually rain will spread in and this front should progress east tomorrow evening. Highs tomorrow range from 18C in the West to 22C in the East.
Much cooler and with showers around during Thursday.
Ireland
It’s a mixed evening across the Republic with sun and cloud but little in the way of shower activity. Tonight looks clear and quiet with mist and fog forming quickly after sundown. Lows will drop to between 9C in the rural Midlands to 14C in Cork.
Cloud and some rain pushes into the West during Wednesday but expect more sun and potentially warmer conditions than today over Eastern areas. High tomorrow range from 18C in the West to perhaps 23C in the sheltered South. The cloud and rain edging into Western areas tomorrow will spread east through tomorrow evening setting the stage for a much cooler and slightly more unsettled day Thursday.
