Scotland

The cold high remains holds firm over Scottish air space and so the cold theme continues right through the weekend. Cloud will be stubborn and while this may in fact hold daytime temps down with a lack of sunshine, it will significantly hold temps up by night. This air mass would have the ability in producing the coldest nights of the whole winter but cloud cover is keeping those temps at bay. Lows tonight are still rather cold despite that cloud with towns and cities down to -1 to -3C, a few degrees lower outwith. Where any breaks develop in the cloud deck, expect some very cold temps like we saw with -9 in Aviemore and Altnaharra this morning. We could see the same if there’s clear skies. Both Saturday and Sunday remains cold with highs barely making it to 2-3C, a light SE wind will make it feel cooler. Nights will be cold and frosty. SE Scotland may get a light covering of snow over the next 36 hours.[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level1)]

England

The pattern is very stagnant and looks that way all the way into early next week. In a nutshell, expect a lot of cloudcover with cold air trapped underneath with highs right across England struggling to reach 2-3C by day and even with the cloud, the air mass is certainly cold enough to allow a dip to -2 or -3C even in towns and cities, perhaps -4 or -5C in rural areas, a lot colder where any breaks form in the cloud deck.

A light breeze will take an edge off those already chilly readings and along coastal areas where the wind is fresher, expect wind chills of between -3 and -6C. Snow showers are possible along the coasts with heavier showers up over NE England where a covering is possible, same for parts of Kent and E. Anglia.

Sunday and likely Monday is a repeat performance.

Wales

The cold and cloud is set to hang around right through the weekend with night lows dipping to -1 or -2C in towns and cities, -2 to -4C in rural areas even with that cloudcover, however, any breaks and -6 to -8C is possible.

Highs tomorrow rise to only 1 or 2C widely with a light E breeze and a chance of snow showers.

Same for Sunday and even into Monday.

Northern Ireland

A cold weekend is in store for Northern Ireland with very similar conditions and temps as across the UK mainland. Highs 1-3C, lows -1 to -3C with much lower readings where any cloud breaks.

Ireland

Heavy cloud dominates Ireland right through the weekend and beneath that cloud there is not much warmth to be had. Air masses are rarely cold enough here for temps to drop below freezing at night when there’s a solid cloud deck but this is what we’ll see. Expect an odd snow shower over hills. Highs 2-4C.
