A beautiful area of high pressure sits parked over the UK and over the past 3 days, this weather system has continued to build over our heads. This brought about a cold and frosty night and through today, a slower slower recovery meant a slightly cooler day than yesterday where it hit 13.4C in Kinlochewe.

After another brilliantly sunny day, it turns cold fast tonight once that sun drops. Expect towns and cities to fall towards -2, may -3C while outlying areas may fall to between -3 to -6C quite widely. A sheltered Highlands or Southern Upland Glen may see lows down to -7 or -8C tonight.

Tuesday is looking largely fine, dry and bright once again with highs perhaps down another 1-2C. Changes are afoot come tomorrow evening as cloudier skies roll in thanks to an approaching cold front from the east. After this pushes through Tuesday night into Wednesday, it will be much cloudier with a downward trend in temperature towards late week into the weekend.

England

The fine dry and settled conditions continue into tonight and with those clear skies and light winds come a frost. Luckily there has been no rain over the past 4 days so ice won’t be an issue, just the fact you’ll need to bundle up and have that scarpper handy for the morning.

Lows widely drop to freezing or below throughout England’s towns and cities. Away from the urban heat island and we may see sheltered spots dip towards -6C. Watch out for DENSE FOG developing quickly after sunset. The South up through the Midlands may be most suseptable and this will be in the form of ‘freezing fog’ so something to be aware of when driving to work in the morning.

Highs range from 5-8C tomorrow, slightly cooler than the past couple of days but this will still be mild compared to what’s coming our way Tuesday night into Wednesday. Though the approaching cold front won’t bring any dramatic weather, what it will be is bring heavy cloud, breezier conditions and a much colder feel to the air. Highs Wednesday only reach 2-4C for central and eastern parts including London.

Wales

Like in Scotland and England.. Wales is dry, bright and sunny with daylong sunshine. Now when’s the last time we’ve seen this type of weather? The sunshine gives way to starry skies tonight and any mild air generated by day will quickly radiate back up to space tonight and so a widespread frost with lows of -2 to -4C are on the way countrywide.

Tomorrow will be another fine, dry and settled day. Watch out for dense fog patches, particularly in the valley areas but all in all it’s a 5th dry, bright and sunny day. Big change comes Wednesday on as easterly winds bring in much colder air, cloudier skies and a stiff east wind. Make the most of this mild, sunny stretch while it lasts!

Northern Ireland

Fabulous near wall to wall sunshine will continue through the rest of today making way for a cold, frosty night to come with lows dipping tonear freezing in towns and cities, perhaps down to -3C in rural areas.

Tomorrow will be another glorious bright and mainly sunny day with temperatures near the seasonal average of between 5-8C. Through Tuesday evening into Wednesday skies cloud over from the east and winds will pick up too introducing cooler conditions by Wednesday. For Northern Ireland it’s Thursday where temperatures really drop off with highs struggling to 3C widely with a stiff and cold easterly wind.

Ireland

Today like in recent days will be a mainly bright or sunny one with temperatures rising to between 5 and 10C, always cloudier across the South where there is a chance of an odd light shower. Tonight will be clear cold with a widespread frost. Lows in towns and cities may dip towards freezing while rural areas will drop to -1 or -2C.

Tomorrow’s a largely dry, bright and sunny day once agaion with a degree or two knocked off today values. Through Wednesday into Thursday, a front working in from the UK will introduce a colder late week period with much cloudier skies but staying dry.
