Through today the first of 3 systems will spread across the UK after bringing a soaking to Ireland and Northern Ireland. Wind gusts along exposed parts of the west coast may reach 65 mph later this afternoon as the front approaches. Gusts of 30-40 mph is possible inland areas. While a spell of heavy rain impacts all western and central parts, eastern areas may see a more scattered spell of off and on rain later on this afternoon and evening. Western upslopes could easily pick up an inch of rain and many areas are open to flooding.

The next front arrives as early as late Tuesday afternoon or evening. More wet and windy weather will impact all parts but western and northern Scotland is exposed to potentially damaging wind gusts Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as the low itself exits. Models indicate the strongest winds are on the backside and so while it’s a westerly gale for much of Scotland, the West and North Coast as well as the Outer Hebribes and Northern Isles may experience gusts to 80 mph, 50-60 mph gusts across other parts. The exposed higher ridges of the Highlands may see gusts to 90 or 100 mph.today and particularly tomorrow night..
A further 1+ inch of rain is likely for western areas of the UK from this next system. Strong winds will affect all areas once again. Flooding will continue to be a high risk.
Wednesday will be a day of blustery showers for all and while there’s a brief break come Thursday, it’s back to the wind and rain for all come Thursday night into Friday.
The weekend appears to provide welcome relief from the storminess as a ridge of high pressure builds in from the west. While a storm appears to try and build north into southern Ireland and the UK, the high coming in from the north and west, deflects this into France, however, this system is worth paying close attention to as models can and will chop and change, hopefully the high will be too strong for this storm and we can get a dry and bright weekend across the board. Lots of bad weather up until then, stay tuned for more updates.
