[error]PARTS OF N WALES, NW ENGLAND & S SCOTLAND MAY SEE 2-3 INCHES OF RAIN WHICH WILL CAUSE FLOODING TONIGHT & TOMORROW[/error]
While it’s been a very wet day for much of the UK and Ireland, tonight and into tomorrow will see little respite as large and heavy showers continue to pile in from the south.
There is real concern over both strong winds, especially southern and western coasts where gales will develop overnight but there will likely be flooding rains across parts of North Wales and particularly NW England over the next 24-36 hours where upwards of 2 inches may fall widely from Manchester north to Dumfries. The hills of Snowdonia and The Lake District may collect 4 inches from this.
The low will be centred over the Solway Firth tomorrow midday and there will be heavy and persistent rains piling in on a howlling northwest wind, straight across the Irish Sea and into Morecambe Bay on the SW side of the low. This persistent piling in of moisture may see parts of Cumbria collect as much as 4 inches of rain over the higher ground but widely from Southern Scotland down to Manchester a good 2 inches is highly possible through tonight and tomorrow.
Elsewhere, plenty of heavy showers will rotate around the low and wind will be gale force across counties nearest the Irish and Channel coasts.
In eastern England we may see, like today, thunderstorms develop as warmer air tries to work into Southeast and Eastern England, here we should see the best of any sunshine, temps may reach 18-20C and this warming could enhance an already turbulent atmosphere. Where winds blow strong out of the east across Scotland, expect highs no better than 9-12C, while a little milder across Southwest and Southern England up into Wales, the 15-16C readings won’t feel particularly warm in the strong westerly wind.
Into Saturday and while southern Britain enjoys drier and bright weather for most, yet another wet and blustery day is in store for the central and northern Britain. The rest of the weekend sees more unsettled weather which takes us into next week.
SORRY FOR SHORT POST TONIGHT. I NEED TO HEAD FOR BED AS I’M BACK UP AT 11.50PM TONIGHT! WILL HAVE IN-DEPTH LOOK AT NEXT WEEK’S WEATHER TOMORROW…
