One very impressive June storm system continues to batter the British Isles and I think it is safe to say, it has lived up to it’s billing. After seeing wind gusts clock 70 mph along exposed coasts with one gust clocking an impressive 82 mph at Needles on the western tip of the Isles of Wight, 50-60 mph winds continue to whip the southern half of the British Isles as of late this afternoon with very heavy, persistent rains continuing to pile into particularly Wales still. While the centre of circulation pushes across southern Scotland, winds have been fairly light here across central Scotland with intermittant heavy rain pulses. It’s been once the centre tracked from off southeastern Ireland northwards and deepened to it’s lowest point between Anglesey and Dublin during late last night and early this morning where we saw the maximum wind gusts develop along the well advertised coastal zones of west, south coasts of Wales, coastal southwest England and the south coast from Lizards Point to the Isle of Wight. Pressures are rising back above 1000mb after falling to around 980mb in several locales stretching from Southwest England to northwest Wales.
