Major Winter Storm beginning to crank over New Mexico, starting to reach TX-OK panhandles en-route to Kansas
Winds are starting to howl and rains are turning more and more to snow. Roads as a result are becoming extremely difficult to drive on and their shutting down fast!
A major winter storm is transitioning from liquid to frozen precip over New Mexico and this will increase throughout today with the plume of moisture riding northeastwards across the Texas-Oklhoma panhandles into Kansas with blizzard conditions developing. Extreme driving conditions are likely especially with sustained winds blowing at over 40 mph and gusting beyond 60 will make for exceptional blowing and drifting and white out conditions over the open terrain of this region. This week may appear gutting for many of you dreaming of a white Christmas across the UK and Ireland. Yes, we will be warm by mid-December standards Wednesday through possibly Friday, however, the ECMWF and other models continue to paint a cold storm Saturday, that of course is Christmas Eve and may make for a facinating situation less than 24 hours prior to Christmas Day. You may not want to travel Christmas Eve!
